FROME TUNNELS AUTUMN EXCAVATIONS – Your chance to join in!
The Frome Tunnel team have been busy this year, although not in the press much. After a bumper selection of tours during the Frome Festival, which once again sold out in less than a day, the team have decided to focus digging efforts on two of the most interesting sites they have found to date.
LOCATIONS
The team plan to excavate a tunnel shaft that they unearthed last year in Willow Vale, which reputedly goes down to a tunnel under the river. They also intend to further excavate a new chamber underneath their first big dig at the Lamb & Fountain Inn. The Founders, Robin Rowland Hill and Pete Clarke plan to run the two digs simultaneously if they can – depending upon weather. If wet, efforts will be concentrated in the indoor site at the Lamb and Fountain.
SCHEDULING
The team get many requests of help from Tour participants and others, so, inspired by the format of last weekend’s Cobble Wobble, the team have decided to schedule slots over two weekends to enable as many people to be able to volunteer to join in for a few hours – and not get too tired! The two dates planned so far this autumn are:
Saturday 8th October
Saturday 15th October
Times will be as follows each Saturday:
- 10am - 12noon
- 12noon - 2pm
- 2pm - 4pm
Details of where to arrive, what to wear and what to bring will be given when we have confirmed we can fit you in, (as we expect some times to be very popular).
If both digs run, up to four people per session can join at either dig. Obviously, we won’t turn anyone away who wishes to stay and help longer!
HOW TO VOLUNTEER
If you would like to volunteer, get in touch with the team via our contact page on this site. Please advise on which session you would like to join us and we will accommodate everyone on a first come, first served basis.
ON THE DAY
We will give you more details when we hear from you, however you should expect to wear on the day: old clothes; gloves; and although some refreshments may be available, you should bring a little coffee/beer money and perhaps a snack. Safety helmets will be provided and although every care will be taken, volunteering is entirely at the participant’s own risk. |
